The Characteristics of Information Channels The channels of information in France are principally the newspapers, daily or weekly. Not that radio or television is less widespread than in comparable countries, or that these newcomers do not exercise, as everywhere else, an influence on the actions or opinions of one and all; rather, the print press, in the country of Girardin and Millaud, continues to play the role of an uncontested guide for other information organs. The essential thing, however, about the French newspapers is that three-quarters of a century after the first dailies, with millions of circulation, the French press remains in effect that which it has never ceased to be: it presents more difference than similarity with its homologues of occidental countries.
