It is based on qualitative research observations and fieldnotes, interviews and transcripts, videotaping and review with teachers carried out in settings not connected with university education or lab schools. It does not set out to describe exemplary practice, although at times you will find this, nor to suggest what teachers should do, but to describe the practice of several teachers as it was found to be.
