Projects are designed to address important questions in clinical neonatology and perinatal biology at the clinical and cellular levels. The problems that stem from this circulatory pathway are largely two-fold: 1) Tissues of the body are deprived of adequate oxygenated blood and 2) the right heart begins to suffer from receiving blood volume from two sources – the normal blood through the vena cava and the extra blood from the left heart.

The clinical progress of patients was analyzed according to surgical intervention, entry to mechanically assisted ventilation (MV), and hospital discharge (living or dead). We have four easily accessible sites for the High Risk Follow-Up Clinic in the Hudson Valley Region. Sick babies from a 150 mile radius of Morgantown are cared for in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and the adjacent Neonatal Stepdown Unit at WVU Children’s Hospital, located on the sixth floor of Ruby Memorial Hospital.
