That is expected sometime this afternoon. They were the first moons of another planet to be spotted, making them a landmark discovery. Ending a long 20 year hiatus, Mars Pathfinder landed successfully on Mars on 1997 July 4. Although there are a number of ways to “weigh” a black hole (really, measure its mass), but given the sheer number of galaxies out there these methods can be hard to implement on a large scale (I almost wrote “mass produced basis” but figured that’s pushing the pun too much).

Ptolemy's work was known in the Middle Ages through imperfect Latin versions. In some locations, early cultures assembled massive artifacts that possibly had some astronomical purpose. Through a complex system of carbon dating and radiometric dating we can determine the age of rocks and composites on the earth so that we can calculate the age of the earth from this.

The ice is very dirty, with lots of rocky material mixed into it, which is where we get the "snowy dirtball" name! Makes one complete orbit around the Sun every 29.46 years. Gravity – the attractive force that all objects exert on one another; the greater an object’s mass, the stronger its gravitational pull. The star itself is buried by dust in the center, too enshrouded to be seen (actually, the dust in the Ophiuchus cloud blocks all the visible light coming from the star and the disk; the submillimeter wavelength light can penetrate that junk and be picked up by ALMA).
