The hardcover version is a detailed book for further reference, the concise version is recommended if you need to bring the book to the field. This is a very handy book to have around even if you don't plan on doing more than watching the birds at your feeder. Trainers or walking sandals are fine to wear during a day tour. If you do intend to purchase a fieldguide from Amazon, I would ask you to enter the Amazon site linking from here. Luckily they are not very expensive, usually costing less than $20, so buying more than one is a viable option. It must have been a struggle to fit over 300 Colorado species (I counted 302, but I may have missed a couple) into 264 pages. After a big day of birding you can stretch out with a swim in the infinity pool or opt to relax with a professional massage at the Hilltop Spa where you�ll be surrounded by, yes, the melodic songs of birds.

Each die-cut profile is unmistakable - it's like having the real bird in your own hand. I found a great way to make a more child-friendly version. Her brother, Hart Merriam, headed the federal Bureau of Biological Survey; field biology was a family interest. Peterson is the only bird field guide that has both. They can be identified by their bright red tail feathers. A North American field guide is a must for birding on Aruba, Bonaire, and Cura�ao, as many of the species you will see are wintering or migrant North American breeding birds.

The National Geographic guide is both larger and thicker than the Golden Guide, so more unwieldy in the field, and lacks spectrographs, but birders immediately switched to it, in part because it was more current, so included several more species and also was more up to date on taxonomy changes than the Golden or Peterson guides of that time. The one glaring exception is the Ross’s Goose, whose bill size has been increased so that it no longer looks stubby, as it should.
